10,000-Acre Wildfire Threatens Homes Near Selah

A fast-moving wildfire near the town of Selah in central Washington's Yakima County has burned across more than 10,000 acres of grass and shrub, plus two outbuildings and several cars.

The fire is burning about 8 miles north of Selah, and none of it has been contained yet. She says about a dozen homes in the rural area are threatened.

More than 100 firefighters are battling the fire as six helicopters drop water and two air tanker planes drop retardant.

The Selah Deputy Fire Chief says the fire is believed to have started earlier Tuesday when sparks at an informal shooting range ignited dry grass in a wildlife area.
